Girl Bar

Girl Bar has been a staple in the West Hollywood lesbian community since 1990. Every Friday night at Ultra Suede you ascend up three flights of stairs and enter an uncharacteristically large dance club. Admission costs $12, but if you go to their website www.girlbar.com and sign up for their mailing list, entrance is free before 10pm. It’s popularity has somewhat tumbled with the insurgence of other lesbian events. Very rarely do they meet capacity, which if you want to find the silver lining, means you’ll never feel like a sardine shaking your booty on the dance floor. One would guess most of the girls that attend are not from the West Hollywood area or adjacent. The crowd is not as trendy or hipster as what you’ll find at other places. But Girl Bar is unadulterated, cheesy fun. You can dance freely and mingle courageously with a casual demeanor. The number one reason girls continue to go to Girlbar is for the Go-Go dancers. Atop three platforms at any given time you will stare endlessly at these barely covered, shimmying beauties. Smokers beware you will have to descend those aforementioned stairs to the outside patio.
