Editor Matt Falber blogs on the events of Tuesday in his blog Propaganda

Yes, you heard me… those crazy homophobes are trying to get a constitutional amendment on the ballot - but more on this in a moment.

It was a weird Super Tuesday. We may have to wait until April to find out who will get the Democratic nomination because despite a Hillary win in California, Obama and Clinton remain very close in terms of the delegates they’ve won. Also, John McCain, probably the most LGBT-friendly Republican emerged as the front runner for the Republicans but his opponents are not ready to call it quits. In fact they are pretending that Tuesday’s events haven’t even happened. Mike Huckabee, undoubtedly the least LGBT friendly candidate has even openly stated that John McCain needs him in order to win the race for president. Why? Because he delivered the Biblebelt and that signifies the values of the Republican party.

Let me tell you something, for the past 8 years we’ve been living with a president that was elected by the Evangelicals — these people think we’re evil and sinful. They use religion as a tool for hatred and I’m delighted to know that only 12% of Republicans voted for him tonight. And — exit polls showed that only 2% of the people who voted for him were not Evangelical Christians. It seems the Republican party is changing post George W. Bush and that is quite exciting.

As for the Democrats, they’re looking very united. Voters that were polled are indicating that they are happy with both choices. With all of the discord in the Republican party, I’m predicting a Democratic win this year — and the first time we’ll see someone in the White House who represents our diverse nation. Maybe once it happens we can start looking at what we have in common as opposed to our race, gender, or even sexual orientation.

And speaking of difference… there are several groups out there that are trying to unite to define human rights differently for us. It has come to my attention that several firms in California have been contracted to gather signatures supporting an amendment to the California constitution that would define marriage as being between a man and a woman. The backers of the movement will have until April 17th to get the initiative on the November ballot.

As naive as it is, sometimes I just have to wonder why we can’t just get along. Well, the good news is that there is something that you can do to make a difference — talk to your friends and family about the issue. Research has shown that person to person conversations have the largest impact on people and that you can actually change someone’s mind. But the key, is to tell them why you want to get married. Talk about love and ask them how they would feel if they couldn’t be with someone. Research has also show that talking about equal rights and why it’s not fair that we can’t be married, tend to turn people off. So just remember to be positive.

Anyway, it’s been a crazy week so far. Next week is going to be a very exciting week for us here at Real Gay L.A. — we’re getting ready to launch three new sections of the site. We also received notice this week that our assistant editor will be leaving us in two weeks to move out of the area. What an emotional, yet super Super Tuesday.

Until next time, keep it real.
