When the Ball Drops
By Jarred Black • Posted: December 25th, 2007Your definitive guide to New Year’s Eve.
New Year’s Eve can be overwhelming. Tons of parties, some lame, some cool. Normally you could switch venues if you weren’t happy but on December 31st, the last night of the year — everyone is partying like they’ll never get another chance. Between the drivers and the lines, you’ll want to know where to go the first time.
Plugged In
How could we not tell you about the massive New Year’s Eve circuit event that Masterbeat is throwing. They’ve got events planned for Saturday, Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday (NYE) so whether you wanted to hit it hard or just drop in for a night, you can. With so many locally produced events, it wouldn’t be our first choice, but hey — maybe you really love the circuit.

Blowing Your Cover
If you don’t want to pay a hefty cover charge, we recommend checking out Paul Nicholls “Enchantment” at Here Lounge. There’s a complimentary champagne toast at midnight, a pack of hot gogo boys and it’s actually going to snow inside.

Open Bar
Two words that turn head quickly — “open bar.” It’s what you’ll get at the Scandal New Year’s bash. Hot gay boys, two DJs, live entertainment, one venue and thirteen full hours of party. Need we go on?

The Alternative New Year’s Eve
Just because you don’t drink, doesn’t mean you can go out on New Year’s Eve. Several gay and gay-friendly organizations have teamed up for the tenth year in a row to bring you Club Freedom, an alcohol and drug free party complete with dancing, raffles, and food and drink.

A Straight Alternative
Although the term gay ghetto makes it seem like we’ve got to stay on our side of the wall, there’s nothing wrong with hitting the occasional straight venue, especially when it sounds as inviting as this one. The promoters of Mansion at Montmarte Lounge are throwing a party that I’m sure has more than a few clubs envious. The Montmarte Lounge is actually the oldest nightclub in Hollywood and a regular hang of Hollywood A-listers due to its exclusivity. General admission is $30 but for $50 you get to enjoy a buffet from 7:30 to 9:30 catered by Stonefire Pizza Kitchen and for $150 you get not only the buffet but VIP Access, express entry and use of the premium open bar. It’s enough to make anyone straight for the night, just don’t get too drunk and hookup with someone of the opposite sex — awkward.

The House Party
Nobody actually said you needed to go out. In fact, you can always throw a party at your place — or convince a friend to throw it at their’s (be sure to help them clean up if you do). Check out the vintage cocktail recipes we put together and throw a fancy cocktail party.

Alternative Driving Arrangements
Whatever you do, don’t get trashed and get behind your wheel — it’s messy, irresponsible and you won’t look cute in a neck brace. Metro is offering free fare on New Year’s Eve on all the busses and rail lines. Keep in mind the rails close at midnight and the free fare ends at 2am. But if you’re really in a bind and can’t afford a cab, those busses really can get you anywhere.
